First (?) International Carfree Poetry Exhibition

So far we have Russia, the United Kingdom, and (elsewhere on the site) the United States represented. Be the first to submit a visionary mythopoetic work from your country in your language! This web site seems to handle languages fine. Authors retain their own copyrights.

Submit your poetry!

On January 20, 2004, I sent out a Call for carfree poetry in diverse languages! to the carfree_network and yahoo carfree email lists. Thanks to Anna Semlyen (UK) and Ireena Fufaeva (RU), carfreeuniverse now has its first international carfree poetry exhibition. If you've been moved to creative expressive acts that can be published on the web, poetry or otherwise, send them in, or get an account here and publish them yourself. The topics need not be specifically carfree  (since carfree people think about things besides carfreedom). Also consider recording your song or poem, so that those who don't speak your language can have some idea of what it sounds like.

I commit to be greener

Anna Semlyen, Author of Cutting your car use, contributes:

I commit to be greener
Environmentally cleaner
A seeker of a natural future
So I'll reduce, repair, reuse and recycle
I don't drive, but walk or bicycle
Engage in permaculture

Мой город без машин

Ireena Fufaeva from Nizhnij Novgorod, Russia submitted the song below. She wrote: "2 years ago I wrote this short Russian poem (it's really the text of the song). ... It is Russian and Cyrillic." Ireena is affiliated with Carfree Russia and Агентства Волжской Экологической информации (АВЭ-инфо) [Agencies Volga Ecological information (AVE-INFO)], and she can be emailed at kasha [ at ] dront.ru.

I hope to have a more complete translation here in the future, and a recording of someone reading it, as well. If you can provide the translation/reading recording, please let me know! The translation on the right is by Paralink.

Мой город без машин

*************************

Припев:

Мой город без машин,
в нем дышится легко
Мой город без машин,
В нем слышится легко
Мой город без машин,
мой город - без машин

My city without cars
My city without cars
It allows to breath
My city without cars
My city without cars
It allows to hear

*****************************

My city without machines

*************************

Refrain:

My city without machines,
In it it is breathed easily
My city without machines,
In it it is heard easily
My city without machines,
My city - without machines

My city without cars
My city without cars
It allows to breath
My city without cars
My city without cars
It allows to hear

*****************************

My city without machines,
Here mothers of children
Easy in the morning in school release.
My city without machines,
Among lime avenues in the evenings in love walk...

Refrain.

My city without machines,
My city without machines
On rollers, on velikah shikuet...
Runs, hastening, a tram,
The horned friend hastens-
It without machines lives and in a moustache does not blow!

Refrain.

My city without machines.
We breathe here a rain,
Both a snow, and colors - not gasoline.
My city without machines,
We for hands go
On streets familiar and ancient...

Refrain.
